Forces driving digital disruption: advances in technology, globalization: a process of interaction and, especially, integration among people, companies, and govts of different nations. Technologies have been transforming almost every industry: ex: blockbuster vs. netflix; borders vs. amazon. Every business needs to be vigilant in defending against threats from emerging techs and in seizing new business opportunities with new techs. Means, without it or if it fails, business is seriously jeopardized. Increasingly, information systems in most businesses are becoming mission-critical. Economic impacts: reduce search costs, create long-tail phenomenon. Increase efficiency in supply chain management: group decision making/knowledge sharing, enhance communication/collaboration. First-mover advantage: occurs when an organization can significantly impact its market share by being first to market with a competitive advantage.
