West coast hotel co. v. parrish (1937): upheld the constitutionality of minimum wage legislation enacted by the state of washington, overturning an earlier decision in adkins v. Goesaert v. cleary (1948): upheld a michigan law which prohibited women from being licensed as a bartender in all cities having a population of 50,000 or more, unless their father or husband owned the establishment. Strauder v. west virginia (1880): held that categorical exclusion of blacks from juries for no other reason than their race did indeed violate the equal protection clause.
