Something that goes against the teaching of the church. There were laws in america going back to the 17th century, anyone who denied jesus christ could be put into jail. Now we have a country with diverse religious opinion, so it is no longer controversial. Thing something sacred and treating it as profane. There are a lot of movies that make fun of the catholic church and religion in general. The church used to be in uential with their censorship boards. Because we"re talking about private commercial products it is less likely that the government would get involved. Though there are controversies with the government spending money on an art exhibit that includes sacrilegious images. Profanity: comedian george carlin"s seven dirty words routine. Talking about the words that you can"t say on radio or television. This can be said on hbo because it"s paid television.
