For the past decade he union leaders have been calling for a stronger. Eu to be able to respond to global challenges. The lisbon treaty is the answer to those challenges and the way of strengthening institutions to better serve. Leaders made a larking declaration in 2001, call for europe to define its future purpose and place in the world, which followed by a convention leading by the french leader. As a result european constitution happened, which was rejected by france and the netherlands. So, the eu leaders refashioned it into lisbon treaty, a document that retain the key parts of the constitution but drop other controversial aspects. Lisbon treaty emphasizes on the rights of the eu citizens.
