ANTH 316 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Ga Language, Protein Quality, Malnutrition
Document Summary
Needed in sufficient amounts for all growth, repair, and metabolic activities. Malnutrition: any type of poor nutrition, too much, too little, or improper balance. Human ecologist: look at malnutrition as a measure of ecological failure, showing that humans are not successfully adapted to its environment. However this can have sociopolitical causes and solutions, problem is worldwide distribution. Protein is a primary organic component of our bodies involved with growth, reproduction, maintenance, and survival. Our dna codes of proteins, a prodent of dna synthesis, made up of 20 amino acids in various ratios, 12 are synthesized by our body, 8 are essential (essential amino acids) Protein deficiency can be related to insufficient intake in general or particular amino acids. Need to take in amino acids in appropriate rations. High quality protein - possesses amino acids in similar ratio to our needs, therefore meat for instance.
