PSYCH 104 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Psych
Document Summary
Group polarization: occurs when decisions made by group members are more extreme than the initial inclinations of the members. What makes a good leader: great person theory: proposes that certain key personality traits predict good leadership no matter what the situation is. Theory is only weakly supported: transactional leaders: set clear, short-term goals and reward followers who meet those goals. Good at meeting the needs of an organization and making sure things run smoothly: transformational leaders: inspire followers to focus on common, long-term goals. Good at thinking outside the box and motivating people. Followers and the situation play important roles in leadership processes as well. The contingency theory of leadership: suggests that leadership effectiveness depends on: how task or relationship-oriented the leader is. A task-oriented leader is most concerned with getting the job done (best in situations with high or low control)
