The larger the group in tug-of-war competitions, individual effort became less. Twentieth century: rapid changes and world events led to new ideas. Kurt lewin: behavior is a function of the person and situation. Stanley milgram: role of obedience (in light of world war ii) 1950s and 1960s: psychology divided into two camps. Behaviorism: learning principles (e. g. rewards and punishments) Uses scientific approaches to measure behavior, thoughts, feelings, and inner states. Cognition- how people think and why people think what they do. Why people act the way they do. Combines profound questions and the scientific method. Pursuit of truth put above all other goals.
