Document Summary

Smoking is a leading cause of death. Smoking is a large scale global problem that affects people, particularly adoslecents, all over the world and leads to a large number of health complications. Powerful social influences are the leading cause of adolescent smoking. Children with parents or friends who smoke are more likely to smoke, and often smoke in the company of their peers. Being labeled as a smoker has numerous positive qualities, including being tought, sociable, and good with members of the opposite sex. Adolescents learn these lessons through observational learning. Overtime, they become addicted, as they become addicted to the drug nicotine, which leads to increased activation of dopamine neurons. E-cigarettes are a new nicotine delivery system that has become increasingly popular in the u. s. It delivers the nicotine less harmfully (no carcinogens), and does not produce second hand smoke. At the same time, there is not enough scientific data regarding the safety of e-cigarettes.
