GEOG 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 27: Fluid Parcel, Mixing Ratio, Convective Available Potential Energy
Document Summary
Weather at the earth"s surface is often affected by conditions throughout the troposphere. These conditions are graphically on a tephigrams. A set of weather observations vertically through the troposphere. Meteorologists can analyze the data provided from sounds using a tephigrams. Heights of cloud bases and cloud tops. Tephigrams display a profile of the troposphere they are constructed with several lines: These are used to forecast cloud development and severe weather. The pressure level to which a parcel of originally unsaturated air from the surface must be lifted in order to reach saturation: the lcl is a pressure level and marks the position of cloud bases. An air parcel has reached the lcl and continues rising. The parcel will now rise along the moist adiabats since it is now saturated. If the parcel crosses the environmental temperature line, it will become warmer than the environment thus it will continue to freely rise.
