Document Summary

2 hard drives max (later increased to 4) If you wanted to use parallel ata, you needed a parallel ata controller. If you wanted to use scsi, you needed an scsi controller. Parallel ata has been replaced with serial ata. Serial attached scsi (sas) and iscsi drive replaced scsi. Similar connector but not compatible with sata iscsi allows commands to be sent over ethernet. Use system setup to set boot order. Make sure that all drives are recognized in system setup before setting order. An m. 1 drive is not a mass storage device, neither it is a form factor. Optical drives, magnetic drives and ssds are all mass storages. Advanced technology attachment (ata) is a command and connection standard for mass storage devices. Form factors are not command or connection standards. Lba is an organization structure for mass storage devices. Sata is a serial interface; all data moves in sequence (serial) over a single wire.
