BIOL 102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Endomembrane System, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Mitochondrion
Document Summary
All living organisms are composed of one or more cells. Cells are the smallest units of life. New cells come from pre-existing cells by cell division. Prokaryotic cells not so much, they don"t have the same purpose. Organelles is a key word in the use of eukaryotic cells. Region surrounding the cell organelles inside the plasma membrane. Contains everything in the cell, contains a lot of protein and nucleic acid. Outer membrane of the nuclear envelope is continuous with the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Just a hole that"s regulating proteins and mrna etc, big molecules. Materials within the nucleus are not part of the endomembrane system. Composed of dna and protein = chromatin. Job to hydrolyze macromolecules so it can be used again. Receptor mediated endocytosis uses receptors to bind to macromolecules outside the ell. Plasma membrane pinces in to form a vesicle that delivers cargo to early endosome.
