Purpose depends on the setting assessing a drug addict vs. assessing a family s situation with a mentally disabled child. Observation body language, how they interact w/ other patients. Cognitive cognitive functions, attention, memory, thinking, post op, after a stroke etc. Personality assess disorders that may affect jobs and or research , also leagal cases or for court. Integrative / eclectic not strict on one or another orientation, but seing the persona for and their family as influential to them. Focus on past and things that happened to you. More present and what"s happening to you now. How patients label their emotions and validate them. Emotions, thoughts and behaviors all affect one another. Primary prevention preventing before a disease is there. Secondary prevention preventing the occurrence of a disease (recovering) Tertiary prevention reducing any disability associated with a disease or disorder once you have it.
