4 causes (material, formal, efficient, and final) Living things exist to be what they are. To fulfill the function of the living thing. Causes of living things are all very similar. Compounds can become matter when another form is added to it. Only thing that is only matter is prime matter. Some matter/form compounds are living, others are not. Need to point to one of the four causes for the justification. What do living things do that non-living things do. Living things have the same matter, but different forms. The soul takes the body from being potentially alive to actually alive. The soul is the form of a natural body that has life potentially in it. Form of the body that has life potentially. The soul is a part of the matter/form compound, but is not a part of the body. 2nd potentiality/ 1st actuality: knowing how to do it.
