Lewis"s argument: (a) there are many ways the world might have been. (b) every way the world might have been is a possible world (c) there are many possible worlds. Modality- necessary thing- incapable of not being true. Possible- can happen but won"t necessarily happen. New development of logic which made new symbols on if things could be different in universe. There exists an x and such x. Quantify over x and attribute possible properties. Say that it exists, attributes properties to it to make logical statement. Know statement is true by looking outside to see if it"s raining. Make a statement of a possible thing. True statement: bernie sanders could have won the election . To say there is an alternate universe where bernie sanders won. Seem that this sentence would then correspond to a fact (not in our universe) but a face.
