Microsoft Access: Using Forms
The Basics of Forms
A form is essentially a user interface in Access
oDesigned to help a user interact with data
oMakes it easier to manage and understand the data
Does not change the database structure, just displays the data in different ways
A SubForm can be used to reflect relationships between data
Editing in Design View
A form should be designed in such a way to reflect the needs of the end user
oCan include charts, buttons, SubForms, etc.
Includes three main sections
oDetail: Contains all of the form’s data; can be used to edit which data is
displayed and how
oForm Header: Appears on every page; can be used for labeling, navigation
oForm Footer: Appears on every page; can be used for page numbers (needed
for printing), navigation
The Property Sheet
Provides options for customizing the form
oBroken down by the objects that make up the form (buttons, fields, etc.)
Format: How should the object be formatted?
oEverything contained in a form can be formatted from the property sheet
Data: What should be included in the object?
Event: Are there any events that should happen to the object?
oEvents are actions that can be taken when the user is navigating the form
oExample: A command is executed when the mouse is moved a certain way
