HIST 1100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Scottish People, Presbyterianism, Connecticut River
Document Summary
A major contributing factor to why industrialization developed so late in america was because of the immense amounts of land open to settlement as, well as it being so cheap. Americans were not going to amass with intensive work inside of factories and workshops when there was an opportunity to settle out westward. Due to the immense reluctance americans had towards working in industrialized factories, the difficulty to find laborers increased. However, a solution was found when people began to immigrate to the united. States in hopes of a better life than the ones they lived in their native lands. These immigrants were willing to toil in the extreme conditions of factories because they saw coming to and working in america as an opportunity. Immigrants worked in the factories, thus increasing production and generally improving the state of the economy.
