Nobility clashes with everyone: wants to be in power, spread of enlightenment ideas. Charles de calonne wanted to tax the aristocracy. King agreed and convened a council of nobles: nobles got angry and denounced king. Went on to bring back estates general. Estates general: had been around in france since the 13th century.
