He wants the extreme, but also qualified. Meter and rhythm are the means by which the poet can shove more pleasure into the poem while also controlling and regulating passion. There is some danger that the excitement will be taken beyond its proper bounds. Meter, metric, rhythm is the kind of poetry that regulates intense passion and pleasure.
