Animism- the attribution of a soul to plants, inanimate objects, and natural phenomena. Totemism- system of belief in which humans are said to have kinship or a mystical relationship with a spirit-being, such as an animal or plant. (emile durkheim) Mana- impersonal force that needs to be controlled. Shamanism- part-time religious practitioners with special abilities to connect individuals with supernatural powers or beings. Supernatural: things that are intangible, a being, spirit, ghost, force. Magic- the use of spells, incantations, words, and actions in an attempt to compel supernatural forces to act in certain ways, whether for good or for evil. Witchcraft- the practice of magic, especially black magic, the use of spells. Person causing things to happen to another unconsciously. Azande think everything is bad and have to do magic to counter the witchcraft. Located in a black bag in a body. Ritual and myth, and their purposes in religions.
