Kugle points out that there are different ways to interpret the text that has previously been studied, and this in turn produces different interpretations of what the text can mean. The way the references he points to have been read is what leads to an exclusion and hate towards lgbt muslims within the community due to a clear misunderstanding/interpretation. By answering the questions that kugle lays out for himself, it allows him to answer common concerns and questions often posed in regards to interpretations, sex, and homosexuality in. As the first part of this text, kugle explains the difference between sex and sexuality, along with the relevance of both in islam.
