Fundamental attribution error- the tendency to overestimate the effect of dispositional influences on other people"s behavior (involves underestimating situational influences) Attitude- belief that includes an emotional component. Conformity- a tendency to alter one"s thinking or behavior in response to group pressure. Asch"s experiments: independent variable- social pressure, groups. Control- alone: dependent variable- perceptual task, high internal validity- easy, uncomplicated task = wrong answers are likely due to influence, low external validity- not similar to drugs, sex, religion, politics, etc. Normative social influence- conform due to fear of social rejection or to gain social approval. Informational social influence- conform because they accept the opinions of others. Obedience- behavior following the rules or instructions from those of higher authority. Be able to define these terms as well.
