Travels through the vasculature until it gets stuck: hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in the brain) Aneurysm: balloon like dilation in the wall of the blood vessels. Symptoms: truly depends on what part of the brain they affect and the amount of damage. Paralysis or numbness of face, arm, or leg. Trouble with seeing in one or both eyes. Near and far : penumbra: the region directly surrounding the epicenter of the stroke, diaschisis: to shock throughout. Concerns about area distal from injury: neurons die from excitotoxicity: excess glutamate increase which cause an increase in sodium and calcium. Ex: impulsive behavior, anxiety, loss of self esteem. Concussion: injury to the brain that results in temporary loss of normal brain functions. Women are less likely to develop damages from concussions. Coup- countercoup: whiplash movement where brain bangs against front and back of the brain. Injury can be opposite of brain from impact.
