Traumatic stressor: events that involve death, serious injury, or sexual violence: 60-70% of people have witnesses a traumatic event. Key features of ptsd: traumatic event as well as, intrusive re-experiencing of the event. Nightmares, flashbacks, or intrusive thoughts: avoidance of situations or memories related to the event. Can be external (place/objects/situations) or internal (feelings/thoughts: negative changes in thoughts and emotions. Irritability/ outburst of anger: for more than one month. Acute stress disorder: same symptoms as ptsd except it last anywhere from 3 days to 1 month. Adjustment disorder: any stressful event along with symptoms that are out of proportion and result in significant impairment.
