Document Summary

Wars and failed bargains: two types of strategic interactions, cooperation (positive-sum, coordination. Coordination type of cooperative interaction in which actors benefit from all making the same choices, and subsequently have no incentive not to comply. Ex; deciding which side of the road cars should drive on. Collaboration actors gain from working together but nonetheless have incentives to not comply with any agreement. Ex; you get 7 points instead of 2. Motivated not by the collective outcome, but the individual benefit (shortened sentences) Easier for a smaller number of actors to cooperate and, if necessary, to monitor each other"s behavior than for a large amount of actors to do so. Smaller the number of actors, the more likely they are to cooperate successfully. Cooperation is more likely to occur if actors expect to be involved in multiple, repeated interactions. Actors can prevent those from cheating by threatening to withhold cooperation in the future.
