SOP 3004 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Survivalism, Social Loafing, Scientific Method
Document Summary
The scientific study of how people think about, influence, and relate to one another. Often deals with interactions with others based on goals. Meet your goals, you impress others/ make them proud/ show your status above others. Broad interpretation: how people think, feel, and act. Because society stopped following religion as strictly, and religion often forbade divorce, it led to an increase in divorces around the 1970s. Also relevant would be how more women began working, meaning they could financially support themselves if they left their husbands. When you are reunited with your partner, your oxytocin levels increase. People in a committed relationship tend to not pay as much attention to an attractive person who walks past them as someone who is unsatisfied with their relationship. Marital satisfaction decreases over time, especially with the addition of kids. Once couples send their kids off to college, retire, they have a recovery in marital satisfaction.
