PSY 2012 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Solomon Asch, Fore People, Psych
Document Summary
Paul elian set out to see if the recognition of facial expressions spread across different countries, cultures, and continents. He previously tested with college students from different by having them recognize common facial expressions and all participants correctly identified each picture. Elian concluding that even though this supports his research it"s isn"t enough evidence on its own because the participants were affiliated with american culture already. Paul elian and his friend friesen, traveled to the highlands of new guinea to reach a community of fore people. Elian chose the members of the fore community because they have little to zero contact with the outside world. They tested 189 adults and 130 children and asked them to match a facial expression from three-note cards that correctly matched the story that they were given (there was a possibility of getting 6 different stories).
