HSC 3243 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Thesis Statement, Present Tense, Wild Type
Document Summary
Use a method to organize the ideas in a way that makes sense to you. Think of the paper as an hourglass where the topic is broad at the beginning, narrows in the middle, and broadens at the end. Introduction: attention getter, transition into thesis statement, thesis statement. Body paragraphs- use this format for each body paragraph: topic sentence, discussion and evidence sentences, conclusions/ transition sentence. Conclusion: summary of the main points, reminder of the thesis statement, clear and memorable closing thoughts. Review the prompt and begin writing, using the outline as a guide. Relax and avoid editing at this stage. Explain why you chose the source before you use it, and then fully explain the source and connect their ideas to your ideas. Think before you write: have a goal in mind. Organize your ideas: do an idea maps. Distinguish fact from speculation, but once is enough. All figures should be numbered and contain captions.
