Document Summary

Chapter 20: blood flow through organs and systems in-class notes: there are two main circulations, the pulmonary circulation carries oxygen-depleted blood from the right ventricle to the lung and oxygen-rich blood back to the left atrium. The major blood vessels are the pulmonary trunk, which divides into right and left pulmonary arteries, and the pulmonary veins: the systemic circulation is a much longer loop with a higher bp to push the blood along. It carries oxygenated blood away from the left ventricle and returns deoxygenated blood to the right atrium via the inferior and superior vena cava: the aorta is the largest artery of the body. Name its five parts: ascending aorta, descending aorta, aortic arch, thoracic aorta, abdominal aorta, the ascending aorta is the first and shortest part of the aorta. It only gives off small branches to the thoracic organs and wall: the part below the diaphragm is the abdominal aorta.
