The more complex/evolved it is, the more bilateral a function likely is. You tend to see brain/neurological issues in the two age extremes (old and young: young kids: developmental problems, older people: neuro-degenerative conditions. Rarely is something purely physical or psychological. Internalizing (primary effect on yourself- autism) or externalizing (primary effect is on other people- adhd)
