Document Summary

Six or more manifestations of poor attention control for 6 months or more. Not just in classroom and not at home. Impairment in social, academic or occupational setting. Important because there are adult disorders like depression are not specified for children - need to see whether bad things happening are just making the kid feel miserable as opposed to adhd. Need to compare w same age group - can"t compare 9-year-old with an adult. Needs to be more trait like than state like. Over-diagnosis of adhd becasue not rigorous effort to make sure that things that occur in one context also appear in other contexts. Lack of self-control can lead to anxiety. Or depression symptoms can look similar to adhd symptoms. Psycho-stimulants - inhibit or reverse the effect of the dopamine transport. Stimulants block dat, or with drugs like amphetamine, it reverses that (spits out dopamine) and increase release that way. Drugs like ritalin have less of a dramatic effect.
