• The deductible you pay depends on services you use
• Usually if you use a service or provider outside of your network (like outside of
emory if you work at emory) your deductible is usually more
• If you are someone that uses a lot of healthcare services and has a lot of healthcare
expenses, you would want an insurance plan that has a lower deductible

Who is saving money by raising deductible? Emory is saving money. (Emory is self
insured but they higher Etna to outsource the claims. If bills are lower emory has to pay
less.)
Will raising the deductible be impact edthe employees salary (diff levels of income,
custodians vs professors)
IMPACT ON HEALTH: Raising deductible- less medical care overall, people don't want to
pay a lot more for their services
Employees won't pay for preventative care, too expensive, just put it off, UNTIL
there's a huge expense

Emory in a way is paying itself- if employees use Emory healthcare providers, BUT it still
costs Emory to provide those services
People in POS plan have higher costs than HSA plan BUT you can't tell if it's due to lower
deductible or if they're just people who are more ill and need more medical care
