Showed signs of becoming music prodigy but first had to serve in the military. Among the most important jazz recordings of the era. Born in france, studied piano in greece and russia. The goldkette victor recording orchestra included joe venuti, eddie lang, the dorsey brothers, red nichols, miff. Mole, don murray, steve brown, and bill challis. Lang and venuti were some of the greatest players in the early jazz era. Met in philadelphia as children, performed in the school orchestra together. Played together in philadelphia and atlantic city (1920s) Met up in new york and began recording (1926)
