Album which collects twelve songs recorded by the miles davis nonet for capitol records in. Featuring unusual instrumentation and several notable musicians (gil evans, gerry mulligan etc). The music featured innovative arrangements strongly inspired by classical music. Marks a major development in post-bebop jazz and starts the cool jazz movement. The different koko (a record from bebop) recording and cool in rhythm sections (drums): cool, relaxed, not many quick drums. The players play with brushes signature sound of cool. 10/24/2018 8:39:00 pm: slow and medium tempos predominate (directly opposite of bebop, still uses the harmonic vocabulary of bebop but in a melodic and more horizontal fashion, complex, often classically inspired, arrangements focus on original compositions. Interest in creating a sense of mood or atmosphere with the music: unorthodox instrumentation in ensembles (nonets, duos, etc. ) and use of non-jazz instruments (flute, french horn, bass clarinet, etc).
