Thesis: popular culture in music, in literature, and even in art often is nothing more than a discount version of high culture. Exp: devil went down to georgia & faust. Point of global: cultures cross pollinate for better or for worse: if high culture can dwindle down to everyone in pop culture form, it is something that brings us together. *think of any pop culture example that derives from an idea greater than itself. All agree on good, evil, beauty, but we don"t agree on what they are specifically: we all share the idea but express it in different ways, allows you to be part of a whole as an individual. High culture transcends its time & place: lasts. Pop culture: limited to its time & place. Could be argued that chuck berry: fountain head (first to break rules) of pop culture music.
