Document Summary
What are their motivations for helping we mostly find that people are not interested in helping unless it helps themselves. Prosocial any behaviour that someone engages in that would help another person. Altruism no thought of the self while helping someone else it is about the desire to ease their suffering. **there is evidence to say we engage in prosocial behaviour but people are not altruistic in doing so. **in evolution, it has always been important to survive and ensure that copies of our genes move onto the next generation. So people behaved in certain ways and made certain decisions, passing along genes that are associated with those behaviours (selfish decision making to survive). More likely to save someone who is related to us. If you save someone now, then they will save you in the future. Our personal fitness is bound up in others fitness our genes are in others. Relatedness we will save relations before strangers/less related.
