PSYCH 13 Lecture Notes - Lecture 30: Psych
Document Summary
Latane & darley"s 5 step bystander intervention model. Before helping, you must accomplish all of the following: Easier to do if you are the only one there. Decide that you have personal responsibility to help. If there are other people, everyone decides that someone else can help. Decide what you should do to help, and whether you"re able to implement your plan. To pass through this step you have to believe you have the skills to help. Make eye contact and repeat that this is an emergency. Creating a job for each person and telling them what to do will make a person feel more responsible. People who take this topic are twice as likely to help in an emergency situation. When the situation is extremely dangerous, you are more likely to perceive it as an emergency and act with more confidence.
