Actor-observer effect: most humans tend to attribute their own behaviour to external influences; but attribute others" behaviors to internal influences, actors: focus on the environment, e. g. bad mark on exam = exam was too hard. Observers: focus on actor: e. g. bad mark on exam = he/she must be stupid, traits experiment, believe that traits described others accurately (internal attribution), but did not describe others accurately (external attribution) Salience effect: whatever is most salient (in the focus of attention) is given causal status, taylor & fiske experiment. Participants are seated in a circle; have different visual focus: those who faced actor a thought he was more casually important, those who faced actor b thought he was more casually important. When participants had unexplained arousal, they looked around in environment to find an explanation: Information about arousal tends to be misinterpreted as emotion.
