PSYCH 13 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Psych, Blind Experiment
Document Summary
Provide evidence about what happened, who did what, what events took place, etc. Memory is a reconstructive process and eyewitness testimony weighted heavily. Research on eyewitness memory: involves lab studies where participants are not told that they have to remember something. They view photos, videos or a live event and are then asked to describe the event or culprit. Examines the effect of iv"s and dv"s in a controlled environment. Estimator variables which are not under the control of the criminal justice system (eg; race of perpetrator vs victim). System variables are under the control of the criminal justice system (eg; lineup administration). Can the witness correctly recall the event/crime and can the witness correctly recall the perpetrator, and can the witness recognise the perpetrator. Recall memory: generate a recollection that is complete and accurate. Memory impairment hypothesis states that post event information corrupts original memory, and original memory is lost and only the revised memory exists.
