PSYCH 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 30: Psych, Operational Definition, Habituation
Document Summary
An adaptive process in which the tendency to perform a particular behaviour is changed by experience . Nativists: rene descartes, almost all behaviour is reflexive (or due to inborn ideas, experience plays little to no role in shaping behaviour. Empiricists: thomas hobbes, john locke, humans born with no knowledge/ideas learn through experience, learning results from repeated experience. Dogs began salivating when they saw person who gave them food. Dogs has learned to associate experimenter with food. Association caused dogs to exhibit response (behavioural reaction to stimulus) that was similar to behaviour associate with food. An unconditioned stimulus (ucs) produces an unconditioned response (ucr) Unconditioned stimulus (ucs): stimulus that evokes behavioural response of interest (prior to learning) (ex. food, pollen) Unconditioned response (ucr): reflexive response to ucs (ex. hunger) A conditioned stimulus (cs) that produces a conditioned response (cr) Conditioned stimulus (cs): doesn"t evoke response initially but does after conditioning (ex. bell, flower)
