Grows out of a need to think about how europeans saw the world and the human condition. Historical explanation of modern philosophy is complex, however there is one particular factor that influenced modern though. There was a large amount of religious and social conflict. In the 1500s, the most basic institutions of pre-modern feudal europe had been challenged. The catholic church was no longer the supreme ruler of the spiritual world. The protestant reformation, martin luther, and john calvin had shattered the dominant unity of western christendom. The roman catholic church then implements the counter-reformation, but throughout the 1500s and the first half of the 1600s is a period of religious warfare (confessional warfare) The wars broke out between the different confessions of christian. Up until 1648 there is a condition of continual slaughter in western europe. Present day germany and central europe had been the most prosperous area.
