CH DEV 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: East Los Angeles College, Ulnar Nerve, Endorphins
Document Summary
Fall 2018 cultural differences in skill acquisition *** For the most part there are individual differences and it"s okay, unless they are outliers -> like walking at 2 instead of 12 mo. Gross motor skills blend & cooperate = increases effectiveness of action. Ulnar grasp & move objects hand to hand (4-5 months) Pincer grasp (the cheerio grasp) (9 months) motor development linked with perceptual development. Perceptual development 5 senses: touch, taste, smell, hearing, vision. Researchers use nonverbal responses in data collection: Relieve pain with anesthetics, breast milk, sugar, and gentle holding. Infant"s sense of touch feeling and exploring. Reflex responses to touch on mouth, palms, soles of feet, and genitals (newborns) Gentle, pleasurable touch releases endorphins = enhances growth and emotional development. Can locate odors, identify mother by smell from birth and prefer her milk. Facial expressions of newborns exposed to odor of anise.
