ANATOMY 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: East Los Angeles College, Tentorium Cerebelli, Dura Mater
Document Summary
Dura mater: tough mother ; the tough outermost membrane enveloping the brain and spinal cord. Dural venous sinus-blood filled channels; endothelial-lined spaces between the outer periosteal and inner meningeal layers of the dura mater. Superior sagittal sinus/sss: one of the six venous channels in the posterior of the dura mater that drains blood from the brain into the internal jugular vein; largest one. Arachnoid: the delicate membrane interposed between the dura mater and the pia mater, csf. Pia mater: the fine vascular membrane that closely envelops the brain and spinal cord under the arachnoid and the dura mater. Falx cerebri: a large, crescent-shaped fold of meningeal layer of dura mater that descends vertically in the longitudinal fissure between the cerebral hemispheres. 2 lateral ventricles (large) inter-ventricular foramina 3rd ventricle cerebral aqueducts 4th ventricle subarachnoid spaces arachnoid villi sss. Pineal gland-hormone producing gland; melatonin (induces sleep) Divided into two parts by cerebral aqueduct.
