Foot in the door: drive safe study. If you can get someone committed in a small way, you can get then committed to something larger. Two neighborhoods in a small city that were equivalent types of neighborhoods- target behavior was to get people to get a 4"x6" sign in the yard that said rive safely. Control group- asked to put the sign in their yard. Experimental- said they were from the committee for safe driving would you be willing to sign a petition for safe driving. Then they come back and ask them to put the sign in their yard. People who signed the petition were more likely to put the sign in their yard. Low balling: 7 am study , car sales, heating oil study. Get somebody to commit to a course of action, change the parameters of what they committed to so they commit to more.
