Overtime how a person acts will add up such that personality affects and predicts many important life outcomes. 4 research methods used to connect traits with behavior: single- trait approach, many-trait approach, essential - trait approach, typological approach. Examine correlation betw 1 trait and many behaviors. Self monitoring: degree to which inner and outer selves match behaviors across situations. Acting based on situational cues (or not) High= adjust behavior; low= consistent across situations. Its not better to be high or low. Actors scored hugh and mental patients scored low. Higher on life satisfaction the many trait approach. Examine correlations between one behavior and many traits. Is unpredictable and changeable in behavior and attitudes .
