Document Summary

Aristotle: ideal life is a life of contemplation; best virtue is the complete virtue. Political activity - to make decent life available to everybody (food for all, education), and the life of contemplation for some. If you have the ability to contemplate, you thereby must have food, basic external goods, theoretical virtue, some minimal level of practical virtueetc tradeoff between hard to take away and self sufficient good. Honor, friends = easy to take away. So if the best good is hard to take away - might have to give up some things. Elitist perspective of the good life, since not everyone has the aptitude + means to flourish in aristotle"s definition. Aristotle means that there should be some people who live the life of contemplation, and others cant have the best possible life (too bad that"s tough) 2 things we dont get with aristotle.
