Starting in 1520, pope leo starts to apply pressure, luther sees wht is happening, publishes his four major works. Marriage: used to be a sacrament, but wasn"t anymore, in protestant countries it became acceptable, but stil very difficult to get a divorce. Catholic writers tended to be hesitant about discussing things before the public. Pope at bologna, that he really tries to impose catholicism but he was too late, Protestants were sufficiently strong together that they could defend themselves, and protestantism would survive.
