Life expectancy varies considerably by race and gender: men and women due to --> segregation, black and white due to --> apartheid. The life expectancy disparity: man jobs, poverty rates. Overall life expectancy 1961 to 1999 has increased - due to better healthcare and lower poverty rates. Areas of persistent poverty are found throughout the southeast extended west to new mexico. Life expectancy and poverty have a direct relationship because seniors living in poverty are going to have a significantly shorter life expectancy than senior above the poverty line. Seniors living in poverty is unevenly distributed as well is infant mortality. The south ahs the highest infant mortality rates and seniors living in poverty. This explains why the south has a shorter life expectancy than any other region in the u. s. Youth of mother: related in part to lack of education, women in higher education tend to delay childbirth.
