BIOSC-139 Lecture Notes - Lecture 29: Podocyte, Tubular Fluid, Distal Convoluted Tubule

8 views2 pages

Document Summary

Only place filtration happens due to hydrostatic pressure gradient. Substances from tubular fluid and excess water is reabsorbed into blood/peritubular capillaries. Hydrogen ions are being secreted into capsule from capillaries. Movement of water makes tubular fluid more alkaline than blood maintains optimal ph in blood. Filtration membrane made by podocyte (have pedicels to make filtration slits only thing that filtrates substances); helps to maintain high pressure in glomerulus. Endothelium of capillary = fenestrated (have tiny windows) Pressure is maintained by filtration membrane and diameter of afferent arteriole (larger) than efferent (smaller) bottleneck effect. Hormones: adh and aldosterone help retain water and create more concentrated urine. Senses ion concentration of tubular fluid moving through. High water content and low ion concentration = blood volume is low. Triggers cascade of signals to activate aldosterone distal tubule to secrete ions into surrounding tissue and capillaries to have water move by osmosis to move into capillaries tubular reabsorption (increase blood volume and pressure)
