Hydrogen fusion, lighter elements are fused into heavier ones with stellar cores. Supernovae explosions and winds from evolved stars release the heavy elements back into the interstellar medium. The theory that describes the formation of the solar system is called the nebular theory. It states that the solar system formed from a cloud of interstellar gas, the solar nebula, that collapsed into a disk and formed planets. Collapse: heats up (falling particles convert kinetic energy into heat), spins faster (conservation of l), flatten into a disk. Seeds of planet formation: ices and rocks.
