As the comet entered our solar system, it passed very near jupiter. in fact, it passed within jupiter"s roche zone and broke it up into 22 pieces. These pieces were left in an orbit that sent them on a collision course with jupiter. The collision of these comet fragments were observed with every available telescope on earth and in orbit. On the earth, the most dramatic impact event was in 2013 in chelyabinsk, Primitive asteroid entered earth"s atmosphere over russia, created a burse of altitude of 18 miles, energy burst. Most devastating impact event occurred in 1908 in tunguska, siberia. Believed to have been caused when a 50-75m comet or 30-50m stony meteor. 65 million years ago an even more devastating impact event occurred.
